Last Minute Summer Camps Vancouver
Share
By Nicole and April Hughes, co-founders of Sunhouse Camps
If you are searching for a last-minute summer camp for your child in Vancouver, you are not alone. Most well-run outdoor camps for ages 4 to 7 fill weeks ahead. The good news: Sunhouse Camps still has spots open for July and August 2026.
This article is the quick guide for Vancouver families who need a real, vetted outdoor camp for their child this summer and need to know what is still available.
What Is Still Available at Sunhouse
As of this writing:
- Trout Lake, East Vancouver: spots still available for July and August 2026 weekly sessions, with limited full-month bookings.
- Pacific Spirit Park, West Side: August 2026 sessions still have availability. July 2026 is nearly full.
Availability changes daily. For the most current openings, view the booking page for each location.
Why Spots Are Still Open
Many parents assume that if a camp still has openings in late spring, the camp is not good. That is not how Sunhouse operates.
Our 6:1 child-to-educator ratio means our cohorts are small by design. We do not oversell. We do not pack groups beyond what is safe and pedagogically sound. We open enrolment early in the year and fill steadily, which means there is almost always some availability in the weeks before each session begins.
We also keep a small number of seats available specifically for late-deciding families. We know that summer plans change, work travel shifts, and not every family books in February.
What Sunhouse Camps Are
Sunhouse Camps are seasonal outdoor day camps for children ages 4 to 7. We run during March Break, July, and August at two Vancouver locations:
- Trout Lake in East Vancouver, near Commercial Drive, Cedar Cottage, and Hastings-Sunrise.
- Pacific Spirit Park on the West Side, near UBC, Kitsilano, and Dunbar.
Camps run Monday through Friday with full-day programming. Children spend the entire day outside, rain or shine. Every educator is trained in The Sunhouse Method™, our proprietary outdoor pedagogy developed by founder Nicole Hughes over twenty years of working with children.
Our staff standards: camp staff managers are qualified primary school teachers. Every educator is reference checked, background checked, and CPR and First Aid certified.
Pricing
Sunhouse summer camp pricing:
- Weekly session: $500
- Full month (4 weeks): $1,200
Sessions are non-refundable. Transfers may be possible if requested at least 14 days before the start date.
How to Book a Last-Minute Spot
- Visit our Trout Lake Camps or Pacific Spirit Camps page.
- Select the week or full-month option that fits your schedule.
- Complete checkout. Payment is required to confirm the spot.
- Once enrolled, you will receive the pre-camp information form within 24 hours. Complete this before the first day of camp.
- A detailed packing list, drop-off and pick-up information, and weather guidance will be sent before your child’s first session.
What to Do If Your Preferred Week Is Full
If the week you want is fully booked, you have a few options:
- Check the other location (Trout Lake and Pacific Spirit operate independently).
- Look at an adjacent week. Many families find that a slightly different week works.
- Email us directly to be placed on a waitlist for cancellations.
Common Questions About Last-Minute Booking
Can I really book a camp the week before it starts?
If a spot is available on our website, yes. We confirm enrolments immediately. The only requirement is completing the pre-camp information form before drop-off.
Is the experience different for late bookings?
No. Whether you book in February or in May, your child receives the same care, the same ratio, the same trained educators, and the same Sunhouse Method™ pedagogy.
What if I am unsure whether my child is ready?
Children must be ages 4 to 7, fully potty trained, and able to remain within sight of the group. If you are uncertain about fit, contact us directly. We respond personally and quickly to every inquiry.
What if my work schedule changes after I book?
Sessions are non-refundable, but transfers to another available week may be possible if requested at least 14 days before the start date. After 14 days, transfers are not guaranteed.
Why Vancouver Families Are Choosing Sunhouse This Summer
If you are comparing outdoor camps in Vancouver, the differences that matter most are:
- 6:1 ratio, always. Many camps run higher. We do not.
- Qualified primary school teacher staff. Not summer hires.
- The Sunhouse Method™. A documented pedagogy that other camps cannot replicate.
- Two iconic Vancouver locations. Trout Lake and Pacific Spirit Park.
- Weekly curated video recap. Real communication, not constant updates.
