Why Vancouver Parents Choose Sunhouse Camps
Mud Kitchens: Learning Through Play
How our families feel
"I was nervous about full outdoor"
"I was nervous about full-outdoor in Vancouver weather, but Nicole and April walked me through their gear list and weather plan before we even started. After the first week I stopped worrying. My daughter came home filthy every day and slept like a rock. She asked when she could go back before we'd reached the car." Rachel K. Mom of a 5-year-old, East Vancouver
"It's the educators"
"I read The Sunhouse Method page before signing my four-year-old up, and what sold me was the idea that the adults are grounded enough to lead. That's exactly what the educators at Sunhouse are. Calm, present, capable, and they treat my daughter like she's capable too. After two weeks of summer camp she's more independent at home!" Anika S., Mom of two, Kitsilano
"Tired of stations and rotations"
"We'd tried the structured enrichment programs and the camps where kids rotate through stations every 45 minutes. Sunhouse is the opposite, and we love it for that. Small groups, real educators, no rushing. My son came home talking about beetles, the mud kitchen, and what he wanted to build at the next shelter day. That's a real summer." David M., dad of a 6-year-old, Mount Pleasant
Frequently Asked Questions About Sunhouse Camps
What does a typical day look like?
Each day balances structured and unstructured time in nature. Children might observe weather patterns, measure and count using natural materials, build mini shelters, explore bugs and plants, or play in the mud kitchen. Two snack breaks and a lunch period are built into every day.
What should my child wear and bring?
Dress your child for active outdoor play in all weather, clothing you're comfortable seeing get muddy. Pack a size-appropriate backpack with a lunchbox, sturdy reusable water bottle, and a spare pair of pants or underwear. For cooler months add mittens and a warm hat.
What if it rains?
Camp runs rain or shine. We ask that all children come prepared with waterproof layers and rain boots on wetter days. Our educators are trained to keep programming engaging and safe in all typical Vancouver weather.
What is the child-to-educator ratio?
We maintain a 6:1 child-to-educator ratio at every session. Smaller groups by design than most Vancouver summer camps.
How will I know what my child did at camp?
Every week parents receive a video recap of their child's time at camp, a window into their week and a way to start conversations at home.
What will my child actually learn?
Sunhouse Camps builds skills in four areas. Physical development through climbing and outdoor play. STEM and cognitive growth through hands-on experiments, mud kitchen chemistry, and nature-based math. Emotional resilience through self-regulation and confidence. Social skills through teamwork and collaboration.
How do I register?
Registration is open right here on this site. Browse sessions by location and month, choose your week, and complete enrolment online. Spots are limited by design. Add your name to our email list to be notified first.
