Outdoor Day Camps at Trout Lake & Pacific Spirit Park

Our summer camps are fully outdoors and thoughtfully designed for small groups of children, ages 4 to 7. At Trout Lake (East Vancouver), programs use the grassy fields, sanded areas and trees surrounding the park, with lakeside meal times. At Pacific Spirit Park (West Side), programs use the ancient forest trails starting at the Park centre on West 16th

Both locations run Monday through Friday with a 6:1 child-to-educator ratio. Drop-off and pick-up windows are shared with enrolled families. Rain or shine.

Why Vancouver Parents Choose Sunhouse Camps

  • Sunhouse Camps integrates outdoor STEM into every session, mud kitchen chemistry, mini shelter engineering, weather and ecosystem observation, and nature-based math. STEM isn't a once-a-week add-on. It's how the day flows.

  • Every Sunhouse camp runs at a 6:1 child-to-educator ratio. Smaller groups mean every child is known, every parent gets real updates, and educators can build genuine relationships across the week.

  • We operate at Trout Lake (John Hendry Park, East Vancouver) and Pacific Spirit Park (West Side). Two of the city's most loved outdoor spaces, used as full-time learning environments.

  • Every educator is trained in The Sunhouse Method™, a proprietary learning approach developed by Sunhouse Founders.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sunhouse Camps

What does a typical day look like?

Each day balances structured and unstructured time in nature. Children might observe weather patterns, measure and count using natural materials, build mini shelters, explore bugs and plants, or play in the mud kitchen. Two snack breaks and a lunch period are built into every day.

What should my child wear and bring?

Dress your child for active outdoor play in all weather, clothing you're comfortable seeing get muddy. Pack a size-appropriate backpack with a lunchbox, sturdy reusable water bottle, and a spare pair of pants or underwear. For cooler months add mittens and a warm hat.

What if it rains?

Camp runs rain or shine. We ask that all children come prepared with waterproof layers and rain boots on wetter days. Our educators are trained to keep programming engaging and safe in all typical Vancouver weather.

What is the child-to-educator ratio?

We maintain a 6:1 child-to-educator ratio at every session. Smaller groups by design than most Vancouver summer camps.

How will I know what my child did at camp?

Every week parents receive a video recap of their child's time at camp, a window into their week and a way to start conversations at home.

What will my child actually learn?

Sunhouse Camps builds skills in four areas. Physical development through climbing and outdoor play. STEM and cognitive growth through hands-on experiments, mud kitchen chemistry, and nature-based math. Emotional resilience through self-regulation and confidence. Social skills through teamwork and collaboration.
