Real mail,

The Sunhouse Post

Addressed to your child, every month. Children almost never get real mail. That is the whole idea.

Join the Post

Once a month a bright envelope lands in your mailbox with your child's name on the front, and inside is a new little world: a mission to take on, games and puzzles, a sealed evidence bag of small treasures, real science experiments they can run with what is already in your kitchen, and a medal they earn by finishing it all.

The theme is a surprise every month. We tell nobody what is coming next, though there is always a clue hidden somewhere in the envelope for anyone paying close attention.

What is inside

  • A mission brief that sets up the month's theme
  • The Maker's Lab, a small booklet with two hands-on experiments using only what you already have at home
  • Puzzles and codes, built to be played more than once
  • A red decoder lens, and messages hidden in the envelope that only it reveals
  • A sealed evidence bag holding the month's small pieces
  • A colouring poster and a sticker sheet
  • An outdoor adventure card, one small mission to do outside
  • A medal they earn by finishing the missions, a new one every month

$14 a month

Shipping included. One envelope a month, charged monthly. It carries on until you tell us to stop, and you can cancel any time. No minimum, no lock-in.

A gift

Birthday Edition, $24

One envelope, no membership needed. A bigger envelope made just for their birthday, with their name and new age on the front, a paper banner that spells out their name to hang up for the day, and a little more inside than the usual month.

A lovely gift from grandparents, aunts, and anyone who wants to send something better than a card. Tell us the birthday at checkout and we will time it to land the week before.

Want the first envelope? Email hello@sunhousecamps.com and we will tell you the moment it opens.

Our promises

  • No screens. There is one small QR code for grown-ups if you want to watch the experiment done in sixty seconds, and that is the only screen in the envelope.
  • Nothing scary, ever.
  • Nothing you have to go out and buy. If a project needs a glass of water or a pencil, we will say so, and that is as far as it goes.
  • No throwaway pages. Every piece is a tool to keep, a thing they made, or a game they can play again.

How it works

  1. Choose your membership and tell us your child's first name.
  2. They are given a member number, permanently theirs.
  3. The envelope goes in the mail the third week of every month.

When it arrives

The first envelopes go out the third week of October. Order before 14 October to be in that first mailing.

After that the rhythm stays the same every month: envelopes go in the mail the third week, and orders placed by the 14th go out that month. Anything after the 14th starts with the following month's envelope.

Where it comes from

We are Sunhouse Camps, a real outdoor day camp here in Vancouver. The Sunhouse Post is made by the same people who run the camp, in the same spirit: hands, dirt, wonder, and a great deal of curiosity. Children in Vancouver will recognise their own city in it. Everyone else gets a letter from a camp in a west coast forest, which is its own kind of magic.

For ages 4 to 9. Some children will do the whole envelope on their own, some will want a grown-up beside them, and both are exactly right. Mailed anywhere in Canada.
